Founded in the UK in 1862 by Dr John Dauglish, to mass produce healthy additive free breads.

It was particularly noted for its many A.B.C. tea shops, operating from 1864. These shops were one of the few places where reputable women in the late 19th century could take a meal without a male escort and not ruin their reputations.

The company ceased trading in the 1980s.
